Arlington VA. (June 24, 2019) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-8.5 Engineering Committee on Signaling and Data Transmission has issued a call for interest for document TIA-102.BAJB-B titled Tier 1 Location Services Specification.
TR-8.5 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: “The Tier 1 Location Service provides a simple SU-to-SU interface for the Direct Data and Repeated Data configurations. This service utilizes a dedicated Service Access Point over the Common Air Interface to transport location information formatted as described in NMEA 0183, a commonly used location protocol. This service is appropriate for real-time field incident applications where the Location Service Host is a resident on a portable device. It does not provide a mechanism to provide location information to a host device on a fixed network and does not support more advanced configuration of triggering and reporting.”
The stakeholders may include but are not limited to APCO Project 25, Private Land Mobile Radio.
TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee.
