TR-8 | Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards
Subcommittees
Committee Description
Engineering Committee TR-8 formulates and maintains standards for private radio communications systems and equipment for both voice and data applications. TR-8 addresses all technical matters for systems and services, including definitions, interoperability, compatibility and compliance requirements. The types of systems addressed by these standards include business and industrial dispatch applications, as well as public safety (such as police, ambulance and fire fighting) applications.
Much of the work of the committee relates to the formulation of TIA-102 Series standards for APCO Project 25. These are standards sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Officials International (APCO), the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors (NASTD) and agencies of the federal government. Project 25 standards are developed to provide digital voice and data communications systems suited for public-safety and first-responder applications.
TIA has provided a mechanism for distribution of the P25 series to qualified government entities free of charge. The qualified government requester must complete the P25 Downloads for Government Entities form and initiate a request for access to P25 documents.
