TIA Standards Update – June 2022

TIA Standards is looking for a new Chair for the TR-51 Smart Utility Networks engineering committee. Nominations are being accepted through May 31, 20200. If you are willing to serve as the Chair of TR-51, please send a statement of qualifications and a letter of support from your company to Victoria Mitchell. TIA would also like to thank Mike Lynch of MJ Associates for his years of leadership as the Chair of TR-51. We’re sorry to see him go. Additional information on the Nomination of Candidates can be found in Section 6.3.4 of the TIA Engineering Committee Operating Procedures (ECOP).

TIA’s TR engineering committees have been hard at work with ongoing standards development meetings and leadership elections.

  • TR-14 Structural Standards for Communication and Small Wind Turbine Support Structures Committee

TR-14 welcomes new participants Carpenter and Cross, SGS Towers, and Petro Jikken. In-person ad hoc leadership meetings for TR-14 were held at TIA’s offices May 18-19, 2022. The next TR-14 full committee meeting will be in-person the week of October 4-6, 2022 (location TBD). They will also hold their TR-14 leadership elections at the October 2022 for the chair and vice-chair positions. In addition, there are monthly TR-14 TG3 ANSI/TIA 222-I ad hoc task groups meetings currently underway. Click HERE to learn more about TR-14.

 

  • TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Committee

TR-42 welcomes new participants Guangzhou Lianxing Technical Service and Google. Leadership elections for chair and vice-chair for the TR-42 committee and the TR-42.12 subcommittee were held the week of January 24-28, 2022. Henry Franc of Belden was voted in as the new chair of TR-42, Cindy Montstream of Legrand was voted as the new vice-chair of TR-42, and Jonathan Jew of J&M Consultants will continue in his role as secretary. While at the TR-42.12 elections, Dave Kozischek of Corning was voted as the new chair of TR-42.12 and Roman Shubochkin of OFS was re-elected as vice-chair. TR-42 will hold their annual virtual Orientation Session on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, from 1pm to 3pm ET / 12pm to 2pm CT, with guest speakers TIA CEO Dave Stehlin, TIA Sales & Marketing VP Patrick Sweeney, and new TR-42 Chair Henry Franc. Their second virtual committee meeting will take place the week of June 6-10, 2022, and the third TR-42 virtual committee meetings will take place in-person the week of October 3-7, 2022 (location TBD).   • TR-60 ICT Lifecycle Management Committee

TR-60 welcomes new participant Square Mile Systems. TR-60 held their leadership elections for chair and vice-chair positions on January 20, 2022. Jerry Bowman of Beacon Solutions was re-elected as chair, Christy Miller of  BCL IT Consulting was voted as the new vice-chair, and Scott Payton of Global Data Center Engineering was appointed as secretary. On March 15, 2022, the Technical Standards Subcommittee (TSSC) approved the new TR-60 subcommittee structure. The TR-60 full committee will be meeting on a quarterly basis moving forward while both the TR-60.B Subcommittee and TR-60 TSB Working Group meetings will continue to meet monthly. 2022 IEC International Standards Activities:

TIA is the US TAG Administrator to the following IEC Committees and 3 ISO/IEC/ JTC 1/ SC 25 Working Groups that develop standards for the ICT industries. The summary of activities and engagement in numbers is worth mentioning particularly for the following TAGs which have a number of open activities and participation.

  • TC/SC46-cables, wires, waveguides, RF Connectors, RF and microwave passive components and accessories-
  • TC/SC76- Optical radiation safety and laser equipment
  • SC/SC86-Fibre Optics-
  • ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25 – Interconnection of information technology equipment
  • ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25/WG 1-Home Electronic System
  • ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25/WG 3-Customer Premises Cabling
  • ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 25/WG 4-Interconnection of Computer Systems and Attached Equipment

With TIA members leading important discussions, the number of ballots and working documents processed via TIA Connect has increased due to the efficient system that has been implemented.

The IEC brings together over 170 countries, and close to 20,000 experts on the global IEC platform to ensure that products work everywhere safely with each other through consensus. The focus of IEC is to develop and publish international standards for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies – collectively known as “electrotechnology”.

The JTC 1/SC 25 International standards activities serve as the leading forum where experts come together to develop worldwide Information and Communication Technology (ICT) standards for business and consumer applications.

Upcoming 2022 Meetings:

USNC  TAG 86A Meetings in Conjunction with TIA TR 42 Meetings on June 8, 2022 from 4:00- 6:00pm.

USNC TAG,SC 25/WG 3, the mirror committee to JTC 1/SC 25/WG 3 Meeting has been scheduled to take place on  June, 2022 from 2:00-4:00.

JTC 1/SC 25/WG 1  May  9, – May 13, 2022

IEC TC/SC46 Plenary Meetings will be held in Florida October 24, 2022- October 28, 2022

IECTC/SC 86 IEC General Meetings will be held in October 28 -November 4, 2022

US TAG TC 76 Meeting will be held before the Plenary Meeting in October to be held in Sydney, Australia 2022.
