TIA Applauds Senate Commerce Committee on MOBILE NOW and DIGIT Acts

Arlington, VA (January 24, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee’s leadership on advancing two important bipartisan pieces of legislation, the MOBILE NOW Act and the Developing Innovation and Growing the Internet of Things Act (DIGIT) Act, critical for accelerating growth across all industries within our economy.

TIA Board Chairman and Interim CEO David Heard issued the following statement:

“With strong bipartisan support, the Commerce Committee took an important step today in ensuring the United States’ global leadership in technology and innovation. By facilitating the deployment of more spectrum for commercial use and deployment of advanced wireless infrastructure, our country will be able to meet consumers’ ever increasing needs for mobile connectivity. Also, the Committee rightly recognized the need for a coordinated approach to promoting the deployment of the Internet of Things if our society is to reap the full potential of these technologies.

“TIA thanks Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.), Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) for their leadership in promoting forward thinking communications policy.  We are excited to continuing to work with the bill’s sponsors to make this legislation a priority in the months ahead and advance them through the full Senate.”
