The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is holding its fall conference this year in Washington, D.C. TIA is bringing its Smart Buildings thought leadership to this conference, leading a presentation with panelists from Avalon Bay and MetLife.

Panel Description:

Smart buildings will create a scalable foundation for creating the elusive smart city, building by building, from the group up. But what is a smart building? And how do the in-building communications work? What does the real estate community need to know about them? ULI is working with the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) to review and support their development of a “smart building” certification to streamline industry definitions and standards around what exactly it means to be a smart building. Experts from the TIA and a real estate owner will help decipher/demystify in-building communications for today and future real estate properties, and explain in sufficient detail to ensure that attendees are fully up to speed on “Smart Buildings 101.”

Speakers:

  • Ben Grippi, Associate Director, Equity Asset Management, MetLife Investment Management, Real Estate; Chairperson, MetLife’s Technology Advisory Committee (RETAC)
  • Karen Hollinger, Senior Vice President, Avalon Bay Communities and MetLife Investment Management
  • Limor Schafman, Senior Director, Smart Buildings Program, TIA; Co-chair GCTC/SC3 Smart Buildings Super Cluster
