TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Tier 2 Location Services Specification

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation

Arlington, VA (August 23, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-8.5 Engineering Committee on Signaling and Data Transmission has issued a call for interest for document ANSI/TIA-102.BAJC-B initially titled “Tier 2 Location Services Specifications.”

TR-8.5 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: The Tier 2 Location Service provides a location request/response protocol that allows a Location Service Host to make a request for location information from an SU or MDP, providing parameters that control the transmission of location information. Immediate or periodic reports can be requested, and reports can be requested base on triggering events. The service can be used between SUs in the Direct Data or Repeated Data configurations, or between an SU and a Host in the Conventional FNE Data or Trunked FNE Data configurations. The location information is provided in an XML-based protocol and is compressed using the W3C EXI recommendation.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: APCO Project 25 and Private Land Mobile Radio manufacturers and users.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-8 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramáriková at standards@tiaonline.org. To join the TR-8 engineering committee submit a TIA Engineering Committee Application today.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee.
