TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for ANSI/TIA-4920000-C Generic Specification for Optical Fibers
Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.
Arlington VA. (Sept. 24, 2020) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for document ANSI/TIA-PN-492.0000-C initially titled “ANSI/TIA-4920000-C Generic Specification for Optical Fibers”. TR-42.12 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: “Adapt IEC 60793-2:2015 as ANSI/TIA-4920000-C to achieve closer harmonization with international standards. The modifications may include: addition of TIA documents to the normative references; addition of TIA test methods closely equivalent to IEC test methods; addition of TIA classification of fibers closely equivalent to IEC classifications (including new additions not contained within latest published version); changes within text to include TIA classifications and references.”
The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Users of optical fiber such as optical fiber cable manufacturers and their customers, optical fiber transmission and test equipment manufacturers, specifiers of optical fiber and cable such as telecommunications companies and standards bodies that define transmission protocols.
TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Cheryl Thibideau at standards@tiaonline.org.
A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee. TIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
