TIA Applauds Introduction of The AV START Act

Arlington, Va. (September 28, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the introduction of S. 1885 the American Vision for Safer Transportation through Advancement of Revolutionary Technologies Act (The AV START Act).

“The high-speed communications networks and infrastructure that TIA members’ build and enable are the cornerstone of the autonomous vehicle technologies that will save lives, create jobs, expand mobility options and lead to more efficient and connected communities,” said Cinnamon Rogers, senior vice president for government affairs at the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).

“TIA applauds the bipartisan leadership of Chairman Thune and Senator Gary Peters.  Advancing legislation that sets a clear federal testing and deployment framework will ensure safer roads and a clearer regulatory path towards bringing this transformative technology to market. The AV START Act is designed to ensure the U.S. remains a global innovation leader and that all-American consumers benefit from an increasingly connected society.”

TIA recently joined the Coalition for Future Mobility, a diverse and growing group advocating on behalf of older Americans, people with disabilities, safety, the environment, the automotive and technology industries in support of policies that advance the testing and deployment of self-driving cars.
