Subcommittee Hearing Today Affirmed Importance of MOBILE NOW for Advancing 5G and IoT

Arlington, Va. (April 5, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, applauded the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology for today’s hearing on mobile connectivity. “Facilitating the 21st Century Wireless Economy” focused on the role of the MOBILE NOW legislation in paving the way towards advanced, high-tech networks and featured testimony from two TIA member companies.

Cinnamon Rogers, TIA’s Senior Vice President for Government Affairs, commented:

“This hearing showed that Congress is committed to addressing policy issues that will advance modern connectivity and ensure we stay on track towards 5G. There’s a tremendous amount at stake with these issues, and it’s clear that members are engaged and willing to listen to high-tech businesses.

“We applaud the broad support that exists for MOBILE NOW, which offers a vital step forward, and we look forward to further action that opens-up spectrum and incentivizes network investments. This work is needed to ensure that we have the infrastructure in place to realize the full potential of the Internet of Things and the evolution of wireless services. Through discussions like the one today and forward-thinking public policies, the U.S. will remain the world’s leader on smart cities, e-health, automated transportation and other transformative connected technologies.”

Among the witnesses testifying at the hearing today were representatives from two TIA member companies: Jared Carlson, Vice President, Government Affairs and Public Policy, North America, Ericsson; and, Jennifer Manner, Senior Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, EchoStar Corporation and Hughes Network Systems.
