Final Limited Waiver of Buy America Requirements for BEAD Program brings us one step closer to achieving Internet for All

Arlington, VA (February 23, 2024) – The Telecommunications Industry Association—the trusted industry association for the connected world—released a statement on the Biden Administration’s announcement of a limited, waiver of Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements for NTIA’s Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program.

TIA issued the following statement from CEO David Stehlin:

“TIA appreciates the work the Department of Commerce undertook to develop a limited waiver of Buy America requirements for the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. This limited waiver effectively balances the robust implementation of the BABA requirements with a pragmatic approach towards the intricate global supply chain, ultimately ensuring universal broadband access.

Our members have already begun to make substantial investments in U.S. manufacturing to support the BEAD program. The release of this final limited waiver provides clarity to companies investing in U.S. manufacturing and brings us one step closer to our goal of deploying broadband to all Americans.”
