FCC’s Net Neutrality Vote Serves Consumers and Supports Innovation by Elevating Technologists over Bureaucrats

Arlington, Va. (December 14, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech connectivity networks, today applauded the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) approval of Chairman Ajit Pai’s “Restoring Internet Freedom” proposal. Cinnamon Rogers, TIA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, issued the following statement:

“Today’s vote paves the way for a free and open internet, which everyone agrees is essential for growth, innovation and consumer opportunity. We strongly support the FCC’s new plan, which achieves this goal by relying on smart technology and technologists, rather than on restrictive regulations and lawyers.

“Our country’s modern networks have rapidly grown smarter and more efficient, delivering incredible speeds and tremendous bandwidth. By taking a balanced path forward, the FCC’s plan will continue this progress and accelerate U.S. technological innovation and leadership. It will drive decades more investment and innovation, new high-skilled and good paying jobs, and faster and more ubiquitous networks to serve the needs of consumers and businesses.

“With today’s vote, the FCC is delivering on the essential goal of an open internet, while returning to the bipartisan approach of light-touch rules that allowed the internet to thrive for years. We thank Chairman Pai for his leadership and all FCC commissioners for their careful consideration of this issue.”

As part of the FCC’s recent net neutrality deliberations, TIA provided extensive comments and recommendations (here and here).
