Standard Abstract

This document is a member of a multi-part standard that, when taken in total, defines the requirements for communications pertaining to the access agnostic (e.g. PHY and MAC) monitoring and bi-directional communication of events and information between smart devices and other devices, applications or networks.

This document provides a reference architecture for Smart Device Communications, that is intended to be used by companies and organizations which are creating or implementing machine-to-machine hardware, applications, and services. Some of the vertical market sectors which would be affected by this document, include IT/Networks, Telecommunications, Security/Public Safety, Retail, Transportation, Industrial Goods, Health Care, Home Automation, and Energy.
