TIA Sponsors U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day 2024

Annual event recognizes significant contributions of U.S. standardization community; TIA has recently introduced standards to improve data centers, supply chain cybersecurity and antenna supporting structures

Arlington, VA (November 13, 2024) – The Telecommunications Industry Association—the trusted industry association for the connected world— is a proud sponsor of the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD). This annual event, co-chaired by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), recognizes and honors the many contributions of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment community. WSD is a widely attended  event that is co-sponsored and attended by federal government agencies. This year’s event will be held on November 14 at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C.

Since its inception, TIA has been at the forefront of standards development, with many of its standards gaining international recognition.

“In an era where innovation and technological advancement are accelerating rapidly, the importance of reliable and widely accepted standards cannot be overstated” said Tom McGarry, Vice President of Standards at TIA. “We extend our gratitude to ANSI, NIST and all the other standards organizations for their leadership in standards development, and we deeply appreciate the dedication and outstanding contributions of the volunteers on TIA’s engineering and performance improvement committees.”

TIA’s recently published standards include:

  • introducing the ANSI/TIA-222-I Structural Standard, which pertains to Antenna Supporting Structures, Antennas, and Small Wind Turbine Support Structures. This latest revision incorporates updates to evaluate and address diverse conditions and risks associated with existing infrastructure. It provides guidance on maintenance, inspection, and the integration of new technologies, such as drones. Additionally, this update ensures alignment with national reference standards and building codes, while also tackling emerging industry concerns related to fatigue.
  • TIA’s QuEST Forum community unveiling the eagerly awaited 2.0 version of the SCS 9001ä Supply Chain Security Management System. This version is particularly timely as it aligns seamlessly with evolving government legislation and industry initiatives. This alignment is crucial as global governments are actively implementing cybersecurity legislation to create reliable networks. The workgroup is already progressing on the third revision, which will include essential support for consumer IoT devices and other standard enhancements.
  • releasing ANSI/TIA-942 Rev. C, which outlines the requirements and recommendations for designing and implementing data centers on a global scale. As the significance of data centers continues to rise, TIA is committed to expanding our focus on ensuring that this infrastructure remains trusted and secure.

Standards serve as vital enablers for collective advancement, fostering activities such as global trade, innovation, technology access, collaboration, security, sustainability, quality, and risk management.

WSD U.S. activities are organized and hosted annually by the U.S. Celebration of WSD planning committee consisting of representatives from across the standards and conformity assessment community—and co-chaired by ANSI and NIST. The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) is serving as the administrating organization for the 2024 U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day.
