TIA Policy Forum to Explore Public Safety Benefits of 5G and Next-Generation Technologies

The Honorable Susan W. Brooks to deliver keynote address; executives from the NG9-1-1 Institute, Verizon, Nokia, and the District of Columbia Office of Unified Communications to discuss public safety benefits of 5G

Arlington, VA (September 27, 2018) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today announced featured participants for its upcoming policy forum, Harnessing the Benefits of 5G, the Internet of Things and Next-Generation Networks for Public Safety. The forum will be held on Tuesday, October 2 from 12:00 PM to 1:30PM at the Verizon Technology and Policy Center in Washington, D.C.

New technologies and next-generation networks have the potential to dramatically improve access to emergency services for the public and to enhance the emergency response capabilities of first responders. Indiana Congresswomen Susan W. Brooks, who serves as Co-Chair of the 5G Caucus and is a member of NG911 Caucus, will deliver a keynote address, followed by a panel discussion featuring leading industry experts including:

  • NG9-1-1 Institute Executive Director Patrick Halley
  • Verizon Wireless Director of Public Sector Product Strategy Nick Nilan
  • Nokia Public Safety Vice President of Public Sector Practice Rohit Bhanot
  • District of Colombia Director of the Office of Unified Communications Karima Holmes

Panelists will discuss how government and industry can work together to ensure consumers and the public safety community are able to benefit from highly resilient and secure networks.

TIA Policy Forums gather professionals from the tech and telecommunications industries to discuss pressing issues related to tech investment, federal policy, and related innovation. Lunch will be provided. There will be a live stream available at the time of the event here.
