TIA Lauds Agreement with U.K. to Ensure Continuity in U.S. Testing, Certification of ICT Products

Arlington, VA (February 14, 2019) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued the following statement upon the U.S. Trade Representative’s announcement that it has signed a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with the U.K. covering telecom equipment and other ICT products.

TIA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Cinnamon Rogers, issued the following statement:

“We greatly appreciate the dedicated work of U.S. trade negotiators that led to the signing of this agreement. Given the long-standing telecom equipment MRA between the U.S. and European Union, we are pleased this deal ensures that when the U.K. exits the EU, the British government will continue to recognize U.S. testing and certification of telecom equipment as valid. In short, the agreement will prevent disruptions in international trade related to conformity assessment and provide welcome stability for the U.S. ICT market, including for many TIA members.”

The MRA covers telecom terminal equipment, including radio transmitters and IT equipment, as well as other products subject to radio interference and compatibility requirements.
