TIA Joins Americans for Free Trade
TIA joins national effort to amplify voices of families, workers, farmers and businesses hurt by tariffs and de-escalate the trade war
Arlington, VA (September 12, 2018) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today announced it has joined Americans for Free Trade, a new, nation-wide coalition that will raise awareness about the harmful impacts of tariffs on American businesses, workers and consumers.
“TIA is proud to join Americans for Free Trade,” said Cinnamon Rogers, TIA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. “The administration’s actions to counter unfair Chinese trade policies with tariffs stand to hurt some of the most innovative sectors of the American economy and a variety of traditional American industries that rely on connectivity as an essential productivity tool. Tariffs will undermine America’s competitive edge in technology, make it more expensive to manufacture products here in the United States and result in job losses and higher costs for consumers.”
Americans for Free Trade brings together U.S. manufacturers, farmers and agribusinesses, retailers, technology companies, service suppliers, natural gas and oil companies, importers, exporters, and other supply chain stakeholders, who are united in their view that tariffs are the wrong approach to bring about meaningful change.
TIA supports the expansion of trade and market opportunities and opposes the administration’s use of tariffs as a trade remedy. To date, the administration has implemented or threatened over $517 billion in tariffs that are harmful to American businesses, families, and workers. Today, the coalition sent a powerful message to Congress outlining these concerns and urging Congress to exercise its oversight role on trade policy.
