TIA Applauds FCC Chairman Pai’s Plan to Roll-Back Harmful Net Neutrality Rules

Arlington, VA (April 26, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai for his plan to revise rules adopted in 2015 that regulate Internet Service Providers.

Cinnamon Rogers, TIA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, commented:

“TIA strongly supports Chairman Pai’s decision to return to the FCC’s long-standing, bipartisan approach of light-touch internet regulations. Applying old rules to new networks and a dynamic marketplace threatens the ‘virtuous cycle’ of investment, competition, and innovation that led to $800 billion in broadband infrastructure spending from 2002 to 2014. The order outlined today by Chairman Pai offers a far better path for achieving an open internet, and we look forward to seeing the full details.

“We also applaud Commissioner O’Rielly for making it clear that any plan adopted by the FCC must recognize that burdensome rules governing prioritization are unsustainable. Prioritization allows internet providers to continually improve the consumer experience. And it will only grow more important as we see tremendous growth in the Internet of Things, an increasingly networked society and the emergence of incredible new technologies.

“A reasonable and flexible policy will ensure that providers work diligently to serve their customers’ needs, while delivering greater connectivity, more jobs and economic growth across the country.”
