Course Details

LEVEL II FIBER SPLICING

Pre-Requisite: Fiber Basics

Course Length: 15 hours

Certifications Earned: Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Specialist, Splicing (CFOS/S)

  • Course includes ~50% lab time
    • Reel End Splicing for Loose Tube and Ribbon
    • Fiber Termination Panel Splicing for Loose Tube and Ribbon
    • Mid-Sheath Splicing for Loose Tube and Ribbon
    • Case builds for FOSC450 and 600 Series as well as PLP Runt and Coyote Series Fiber Optic Splice Closures
    • Generic Panel builds including CommScope and Corning Panels
  • Classroom sessions in all types of splicing, including fusion and mechanical splicing
  • Hands-on training in appropriate splicing types including placement of the splice into a splice tray and closure
  • Interpretation of splice loss on OTDR traces
  • Instructor verification of achievement of advanced skills in splicing

LEVEL III FIBER SPLICING

Pre-Requisite: Level II Fiber Splicing

Course Length: 15 hours

Certifications Earned: Telecom Tech School Master Fiber Optic Technician-Outside Plant

100% Hands-On training in Outside Plant Splicing. Course designed to test and certify splicer’s ability to build a job to customer specifications.

Course includes ~100% lab and field time

  • Reel/Bare Fiber Testing
  • Live Case repair and case swap under live network conditions
  • Student given splice plans of complete job as well as job specifications
  • Student required to splice complete end-to-end job to specifications as well as any producing as builds and work pictures documenting labeling and work completed for turnover
  • Instructors test and verify work to determine if passing grade is awarded
