LEVEL II LAYER 1 FIBER TESTING & TROUBLESHOOTING

Pre-Requisite: Fiber Basics

Course Length: 17 hours

Certifications Earned: Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optic Specialist, Testing (CFOS/T)

FOA-Approved training for Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Testing certification meets the following requirements:

  • Course includes ~50% lab time
  • Classroom sessions covering all test equipment, methods and standards
  • Inspecting and cleaning connectors correctly
  • Training in both insertion loss testing and optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR testing)
  • Include testing of both single mode and multimode fibers
  • Understanding of measurement errors in tests
  • May include advanced test methods (SA, CD, PMD)
  • Instructor verification of achievement of advanced skills in testing

 

LEVEL III LAYER 1 FIBER TESTING & TROUBLESHOOTING

Pre-Requisite: Level II Layer 1 Fiber Testing & Troubleshooting

Course Length: 17 hours

Certifications Earned: Telecom Tech School Master Fiber Optic Technician-Layer 1 testing/troubleshooting

100% Hands-On training in Outside Plant Testing and Troubleshooting

  • Course designed to test and certify technician’s ability to build a job to customer specifications
  • Course includes ~100% lab and field time
  • Reel/Bare Fiber Testing
  • Scenario based training on simulated outside plant network
    • Testing fiber runs to customer specifications for new construction
    • Troubleshooting mis-spliced networks
    • Troubleshooting live network and issuing correct repair orders to splicer in the field.
  • Instructors test and verify work to determine if passing grade is awarded
