TIA Issues Call for Interest on New Optical Fibers Project
Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation
Arlington VA. (September 28 2018) –The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for document ANSI/TIA-492CAAC initially titled “ANSI/TIA-492CAAC Detail Specification for class IVA dispersion un-shifted single-mode optical fibers with low water peak.”
This standard includes modifications of IEC 60793-2-50:2015, optical fibers – part 2-50, and product and sectional specifications for class B single-mode fibers. The committee is developing guidelines to enable class B single-mode fibers that are defined by “Scope: Adapt IEC 60793-2-50:2015 as ANSI/TIA-492CAAC.” The modifications within this new standard may include the following items in order to improve harmonization of ANSI and IEC specifications:
- those described for ANSI/TIA-4920000-C, Because IEC standard 60793-2-50 contains detail and sectional specifications
- ANSI/TIA 492CAAC cancels and replaces: TIA-492C000, 492E000 sectional specifications; TIA-492CA00
- 492EA00 blank detail specifications; TIA-492CAAA
- 492CAAB detail specifications.
TIA is actively seeking participation in this project from the user and general interest communities.
Stakeholders may include but are not limited to: users of optical fiber such as optical fiber cable manufacturers and their customers, optical fiber transmission and test equipment manufacturers, specifiers of optical fiber and cable such as telecommunications companies as well as standards bodies that define transmission protocols.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. Recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee are available on the public engineering committee pages.
