SCS 9001™ Gains Adoption as Organizations Pursue Certified Cyber and Supply Chain Security

Arlington, VA (September 15, 2026) – The Telecommunications Industry Association—enabling the future of trusted digital infrastructure— today announced continued adoption of SCS 9001™, the Cyber and Supply Chain Security Management System standard developed by TIA QuEST Forum, as organizations across the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) industry and the broader digital infrastructure sector seek to strengthen cybersecurity and supply chain practices through a certifiable, independently assessed management system.

Eleven organizations have now registered to pursue SCS 9001 certification, with additional organizations evaluating the standard. SCS 9001 requirements are also increasingly appearing in global requests for proposals (RFPs) and new tenders, signaling growing demand for independently verified cyber and supply chain security. Use cases to date include 5G infrastructure and data centers, where the security and resilience of connected systems, equipment, software and supply chains are increasingly critical.

The need for stronger cyber and supply chain security practices is becoming increasingly apparent as attackers target the operational technology (OT) underlying critical infrastructure. Recent incidents, including cyberattacks on Minnesota water systems, highlight how vulnerabilities in connected operational environments can create risks that extend beyond traditional enterprise IT. These attacks underscore the importance of strengthening OT cybersecurity across critical infrastructure sectors, including telecommunications and data centers. To advance industry awareness and preparedness, TIA has released OT Under Siege, a new white paper that analyzes the Minnesota incidents and provides guidance for improving OT security and resilience.

Accreditation Program Now Available

A key milestone in the adoption of SCS 9001 is the establishment of an independent accreditation framework that supports credible, third-party certification of organizations implementing the standard.

The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is the approved Accreditation Body for SCS 9001 and has launched its accreditation program for certification bodies seeking authorization to certify organizations against TIA QuEST Forum’s SCS 9001 Cyber and Supply Chain Security Management System.

Through the accreditation process, ANAB evaluates certification bodies against SCS 9001 program requirements, including the auditor competency criteria established by TIA in the SCS 9001 Code of Practice.

Several certification bodies have begun the accreditation process and are working toward authorization to provide SCS 9001 certification services. TIA and ANAB are collaborating closely with these organizations to help ensure a robust and globally recognized certification ecosystem.

The availability of the accreditation program provides a clear pathway toward independent certification and supports the long-term adoption of SCS 9001 across the ICT and broader digital infrastructure ecosystem. As organizations increasingly seek ways to demonstrate strong cybersecurity and supply chain risk management practices, accredited certification will offer an independently verified means of demonstrating conformance to customers, partners, and procurement stakeholders.

Organizations interested in pursuing certification can begin preparing now by implementing the requirements of SCS 9001 and leveraging available training, guidance, and implementation resources while the first certification bodies complete the accreditation process.

SCS 9001 Work Continues

As adoption of the current standard grows, the SCS 9001 working group is shaping the roadmap for future enhancements, ensuring the framework remains forward-looking and responsive to evolving industry needs, emerging technologies such as AI and quantum computing, and an increasingly complex cyber and supply chain risk landscape.

SCS 9001 is designed specifically for the ICT and the broader digital infrastructure industry and addresses cybersecurity and supply chain security through a management-system approach. The standard provides organizations with a framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving processes designed to manage cyber and supply chain security risks across their operations and supply chains.

Training and Resources Available

TIA’s SCS 9001 training, delivered in partnership with Omnex, TIA’s authorized SCS 9001 training provider, equips organizations and professionals with the knowledge and practical guidance needed to understand, implement, audit, and maintain an effective supply chain security management system. Courses are designed to help participants apply the requirements of SCS 9001, whether they are evaluating the standard, leading implementation efforts, or preparing to conduct audits. To further support adoption and successful implementation, TIA is also developing a range of complementary resources and tools to help organizations assess readiness, identify improvement opportunities, plan implementation activities, and strengthen long-term program effectiveness.
