David Bain is Vice President of Standards for the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), leading TIA’s team of standards development professionals with responsibility for more than 2,400 technical specialists maintaining approximately 3,600 technology standards used in over 100 countries. In this capacity at TIA, Bain is organizer and convener of the 23rd Global Standards Collaboration (GSC-23), the high-level gathering world’s leading information and communications technology (ICT) standards developing organizations. Immediately prior to joining TIA, David was CEO of TM Technologies, a pioneer in secure and spectrally-efficient radio communication, and a former voting member on IEEE 802.11 (wifi) committee. David also previously led TIA’s Satellite Engineering Standards activities.
During his 25+ years as a serial entrepreneur in the telecom industry, he supported and partnered with organizations including AT&T, Intelsat, Iridium, Motorola, Nokia, Telenor, Sprint, the US State Department and FCC, and the World Bank. Author of two telecom industry investment market surveys, industry patents, and hundreds of trade press articles, he is a frequent speaker at universities and technology conferences on standards and emerging technologies (Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, 5G, Quantum Computing) and their impact on society.
David serves as an investor, board member, and advisor to technology startups and supports non-profits in technology safety (Technology Safety Council) and education (Telecom Industry Foundation, Akshaya Patra).
