TIA Praises Senate Ratification of USMCA

Arlington, VA (January 16, 2020) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued the following statement in response to the Senate’s ratification of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.

David Stehlin, TIA’s Chief Executive Officer, issued the following statement:

“TIA is pleased to see Senate ratification of the United States Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), and believes the new deal will facilitate expanded U.S. trade with provisions that provide security and confidence for the information communication technology (ICT) industry. The robust protections for digital trade codified in the agreement are critical for the telecommunications industry and will strengthen American innovation and competitiveness. The USCMA’s digital trade provisions provide a strong foundation for future trade agreements with other trading partners.

The successful conclusion of the USMCA would not have been possible without the hard work of Senators on both sides of the aisle and the strong foundation built by the Office of the United States Trade Representative and the House of Representatives.  TIA looks forward to President Trump signing the USMCA into law.”
