TIA Applauds House Communications and Technology Subcommittee for Focus on Accelerating Broadband Connectivity and Deployment Across America

Arlington, VA (March 21, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology leadership for holding today’s hearing, “Broadband: Deploying America’s 21st Century Infrastructure.”

TIA Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Cinnamon Rogers commented:

“We are pleased that the subcommittee is examining the barriers to deploying communications infrastructure and exploring funding options that invest in a connected future for all Americans.

To meet the growing demand for affordable, reliable, high-speed connectivity, and to realize the full potential of the Internet of Things, the U.S. must enable mechanisms for direct funding, tax-credits and public-private partnerships aimed at investment in broadband infrastructure, improved access to government-owned infrastructure, and streamlined policies for build out.

TIA supports the “dig once” approach to laying fiber-optic cable when constructing or renovating our nation’s infrastructure. The benefits to this approach include delivering opportunity to more people, expanding economic growth, providing cost savings for the new national public safety broadband network, facilitating next generation mobility, and helping both rural and urban communities across America thrive.
