TIA Applauds DC Circuit Decision to Uphold Net Neutrality Repeal, Urges Congress to Pass Federal Legislation

Arlington, VA (October 1, 2019) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued the following statement regarding the decision made by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to uphold the FCC’s 2017 Restoring Internet Freedom order but strike down the FCC’s preemption of state efforts to regulate the internet.

“Today’s decision to uphold the Restoring Internet Freedom order is an important step for ensuring a free and open internet, which is essential for growth, innovation, and investment in our internet infrastructure. However, the Court’s decision to vacatethe FCC’s decision to preempt state regulation of the Internetcreates the potential for a potential patchwork of different state and local laws that will create confusion and inconsistency for businesses and consumers alike. TIA continues to call on Congress to pass bipartisan, federal net neutrality legislation to protect consumers and provide the regulatory certainty that is essential for innovation, investment and creating high-paying manufacturing jobs.”
