New Rule Changes to 3.5 GHz Band Will Enable Faster Deployments, Says TIA

Arlington, VA (October 23, 2018) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the FCC for adopting rules that will enable development of the 3.5 GHz CBRS band to move forward more robustly.

Cinnamon Rogers, TIA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, issued the following statement on the FCC’s action:

“The targeted rule changes adopted today by the Commission represent a reasonable compromise that will increase the economic viability of services using Priority Access Licenses (PALs) while preserving opportunities for innovation across all tiers of CBRS users. The 3.5 GHz band represents a win-win opportunity to make vital mid-band spectrum available for next-generation services while also promoting innovation through the use of small cells and new spectrum sharing techniques.  TIA’s member companies have been driving such innovation through the creation of spectrum access systems (SAS) and other technologies, and we look forward to more rapid deployments now that the rules have been finalized. TIA is particularly grateful to Commissioner O’Rielly for his dedicated work over many months towards reaching today’s successful outcome.”
