FCC’s Target of Freeing 126 MHz of Spectrum through Broadcast Auction is Important Development

Arlington VA. (April 29, 2016) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today commented on the Federal Communications Commission’s announcement that it has set a target of freeing 126 MHz of spectrum as part of its broadcast incentive auction.

TIA CEO Scott Belcher issued the following statement:

“The announcement that 126 MHz of spectrum may be made available through the broadcast spectrum auction is a great development. Achieving this target would be a big step towards ensuring that communications networks can support exploding mobile broadband demand. While the auction is anticipated to generate significant revenues, the economic activity that will enabled by so much new spectrum will be even greater.

“The Commissioners and staff at the FCC have been committed to making this auction a success, and their hard work appears to be paying off. We congratulate them on their efforts, and will continue to seek creative and effective solutions for addressing the spectrum crunch.”
