Administration and FCC Actions Will Promote Nationwide 5G Deployment, Says TIA

Arlington, VA (April 12, 2019) –– The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the announcement by President Trump and FCC Chairman Pai regarding the Commission’s 5G FAST plan and the ongoing progress of U.S. industry leading the global race to 5G.

TIA’s Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Cinnamon Rogers said:

“Today’s announcement that the FCC will start the largest spectrum auction in history this December will advance U.S. leadership in the global race to 5G. Spectrum is the lifeblood of the wireless economy and getting more spectrum into the marketplace will help the information & communications technology industry unleash new networks and services for American consumers. The private sector is leading these efforts effectively, and the President was right to recognize that a government-led nationalized 5G network would not be good for the country.

Meanwhile, too many Americans still lack access to high-quality broadband. Today’s announcement of a $20.4 billion Rural Digital Opportunities Fund is a great step forward in closing the digital divide. As the FCC moves ahead, the funding should be distributed on a technology-neutral basis and available to multiple types of service providers. Reaching all areas of the country is critically important to ensure that every American benefits from the digital economy of today and into the future.”
