TIA is leading initiatives to reduce energy use and foster sustainability within the information and communications technology (ICT) industry. The ICT sector plays a critical role in enabling savings by driving down the cost of energy in all sectors. Sustainability efforts are fueled by technological advances, regulations, and best practices in energy efficient data centers, smart buildings, fuel cells in critical infrastructure and green procurement. These efforts help network operators and equipment suppliers bring increased energy efficiency to their operations.
Smart buildings and smart communities will improve sustainability by optimizing energy use, which will lower carbon footprints. Commercial and industrial buildings contribute 45 percent of the U.S. greenhouse gas footprint, with emissions from buildings anticipated to climb faster than from any other source. Cities are implementing green initiatives, like Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification or smart building technologies to lower carbon emissions and reduce electricity use. Smart buildings will enable accountability of energy consumption via smart grid tracking and dashboard analytics, and encourage responsible consumer consumption.
The Corporate Sustainability Working Group (CWSG) is made up of companies that prioritize sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
